摘要:We study the effects of dielectric discontinuity on polyelectrolyte adsorption and double layer properties using an improved local lattice Monte Carlo algorithm for treating electrostatics originally due to Maggs and Rossetto [A. C. Maggs and V. Rossetto, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 196402 (2002)].  We distinguish between two different mechanisms for polyelectrolyte adsorption, one due to electrostatic attraction between a charged surface and the polymer, and one due to a non-electrostatic van der Waals type attraction.  For both systems, as a result of image charge repulsion, the threshold for polyelectrolyte adsorption is increased in terms of the surface charge density and the strength of the van der Waals attraction.  For electrostatically driven adsorption, we find that nearly all the monomers of the polyelectrolyte are captured in the vicinity of the surface when the surface charge exceeds the adsorption threshold.  For adsorption driven by van der Waals attraction, only segments of the monomers are adsorbed onto the surface – the adsorbed chain has many loops extending away from the surface.
 
报告人简介:江剑,2014年12月在北京化工大学获得工学博士,博士期间课题主要是围绕经典密度泛函理论在复杂流体体系中的应用,2012年-2013年在加州大学河滨分校交流期间主要从事非均匀电解质溶液的热力学性质以及超级电容器充放电的理论研究。2015年1月至今,在加州理工学院从事博士后研究工作,研究领域为高分子物理。
