Geometry and defect in soft matters

       报告摘要:In this talk, I will report our recent studies on geometry and defect phenomena in soft matters, including geometric effect of long-range interaction, and roles of defects in both static and dynamic behaviors in crystalline order. Topological defects originate from the broken continuous symmetry in phase transition, and they are singularities in the resulting ordered phases. Examples include dislocations and disclinations in crystals. Topological defects are fascinating objects permeating in multiple fields like materials science, granular physics, and biology. Our journey will start from the Thomson problem that is about the regular arrangement of interacting particles confined on sphere, and I will introduce to you the concept of topological defects and their roles in soft matter physics.

 

报告人简介:姚振威,2012年在美国雪城大学获得物理学博士学位,随后在美国西北大学从事博士后研究。

2015年入选中组部青年千人计划。2016年入职上海交通大学自然科学研究院和物理与天文学院。主要研究领域是理论和计算软物质物理学。
